1st WASAG International Forum on Water Scarcity in Agriculture
Description
The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG), with the Governments of Cabo Verde and Italy and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), will convene its 1st International Forum on Water Scarcity in Agriculture, to coincide with the celebrations of the World Water Day 2019.
The forum aims to identify concrete practical, innovative and collaborative solutions to address water scarcity in agriculture in a changing climate, with a focus on Cabo Verde, small island developing States (SIDS) and West African countries. The forum’s focus areas are water and migration, drought preparedness, financing mechanisms for sustainable management of water resources, water and nutrition, sustainable agriculture, water use, and saline agriculture.
WASAG is an FAO-hosted partnership, which aims to support governments and stakeholders in the achievement of the water-related targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with particular emphasis on SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) and SDG 2 (zero hunger). WASAG also contributes to SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 15 (life on land), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals).
