Nature Based Solutions; from definition to action; Emmanuelle Cohen Shacham, PhD
The concept of nature-based solutions traces its origin way back in 2002 as a seemingly definitional term. Since then, NBS have taken a global trend with regards to biodiversity conservation and climate action.
The nature based solutions concept has over the recent years evolved from definitional to operational in most parts of the World.
The European Commission for example in 2020 made Nature-based solutions part of the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program, a program slated to boost innovation around the nature based solutions in Europe and other parts of the World.
A series of engagements with regards to Nature Based Solutions; Conferences, webinars and knowledge sharing circles have recently evolved to expound on the relevance of nature based solutions for sustainable and societal change.
Research endeavors too have shifted great priority to Nature Based Solutions recently with an increasing number of publications and scientific literature revolving around NBS in most parts of the world. The move to popularize nature based solutions in most parts of the World is on high gear basing on its ability to recognize the role of nature in fighting adverse environmental impacts.
