UN Secretary General, in a call out to political leaders to act for nature
In light of the UN Biodiversity Summit, the urgency to conserve and protect biodiversity and natural heritage is at the epicenter of focus, through multi-disciplinary and rather collaborative and highly sustainable approaches. World leaders, through the UN Biodiversity Summit pledged for nature.
Significantly, the pledge for nature straddles way beyond a verbal commitment, but rather through a call to centralized action to save the World’s Biodiversity, from inextricably high rates of destruction and human interference.
The Leaders pledge for nature, through the common theme, United to reverse Biodiversity loss by 2030 for sustainable development; encompasses over 80 World Political leaders in conventions in a commitment to reverse biodiversity loss by 2030. This serves as a united signal for a holistic and collaborative approach towards effective and efficient conservation of nature.
The United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres during the opening session of the UN Biodiversity Summit hints onto the threats that previously have and still are accelerating biodiversity loss. With barely a decade left to accomplish nature’s commitments as outlined within the UNSDGs, there still seems no significant impact so far in attempts to the protection of nature. He furthermore highlights the relevance of Nature based solutions implementation to address the health, climate and biodiversity crises. However, these are not achievable in solitary operations. A coalition by Political heads through the leaders’ pledge for nature is perceived as rather more feasible towards the cause.
This implies a global and contextual analysis of the various interventions by local communities, youth, women, business communities, governments so as to come up with local and on ground action towards biodiversity protection. Additionally, communities shall be able to hold their governments directly accountable and in check with regards to the health, climate and biodiversity crises.
