World Soil Day (5th December)

World soil day seeks to focus attention on the health and overall sustainability of soil. Because without healthy soil we cannot produce enough harvest to feed the ever-growing population.

The theme for this year is "Halt soil salinization, enhance soil production". Soil salinity is the accumulation of soluble salts in the soil which affects the soil differently such as hindering the plant from absorbing water through the roots and hence dying.

The aim of soil day is to halt soil salinization, boost soil productivity and raise awareness regarding the challenges faced in soil management and solving the soil salinization problem. The campaign takes place to improve soil health.
