World AIDS Day 2021

SDG 3

Since 1988, the world come together on December 1st to observe World AIDS Day. It is a way of people showing support to those living with HIV/AIDS and to remind people that HIV/AIDS is still with us. This year's theme: End Inequalities, End AIDS, End Pandemics highlights on the dire need to stop inequalities that are directly linked to pandemics. With COVID 19 around, efforts towards mitigating HIV/AIDS risks have reduced. Making it worse for those living with HIV/AIDS in developing countries. The best approach to end inequalities in these countries is through community initiatives that would be part of public health systems. Policies supporting research, science and sharing of information can also assist.
If successful, the fight against inequalities will help the world be prepared for future pandemics.
"If we take on the inequalities that hold back progress, we can deliver on the promise to end AIDS by 2030. It is in our hands." UNAIDS Executive Director Winnie Byanyima.
