Climate action (SDG 13)
In recent years climate change has become a topic that everyone is aware of. This is due to the extreme and adverse weather conditions that we are witnessing from on end of the world to another ranging from the melting of the polar ice caps to forest fires.
Our world is changing fast and we need to be more resilient to be able to handle the changes that are occurring. SDG 13 aims to do exactly that. It is one of the shortest SDGs with fewer key points making it easier to achieve. It does not aim to stop climate change but rather adapt and change our operating ways so as to be able to handle extreme weather conditions and eventually find a way to mitigate these extreme conditions caused by climate change.
The Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015, aims to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The agreement also aims to strengthen the ability of countries to deal with the impacts of climate change, through appropriate financial flows, a new technology framework and an enhanced capacity building framework.
