Beyond Fiction; Climate Change is Indeed Happening.
'2020 you see was one of the three warmest years on record.......CGTN'.
Today, it is a very rude reality that climate change is indeed happening, across the world. Disturbingly, the overriding impacts of climate change occasioned by run-away global warming phenomenon, are likely to affect the emerging economies in Africa, Asia and Latin America, multiplying the challenges to the already struggling economies in such continents. This is creating an agent need for resource re-allocation into combating the resultant effects, at the expense of viable development opportunities that could otherwise lead to economic development.
Beyond affecting the emerging economies, climate change is becoming a problem of the developed countries; Unprecedented massive flooding being witnessed across Europe and USA, wild fires in Australia and USA, and global species extinctions are just but a few evidences.
In Africa, the impacts of climate change are being witnessed through increased precipitation that has been occasioning massive flooding downstream, leading to destruction of property, wildlife, increased morbidity and mortality rates.
There's thus, an urgent need to address the causes of global warming, by minimizing global emissions, with a realistic target of achieving 1.5 degrees Celsius temperature reduction within the next decade. Enhancing carbon sinks through Afforestation, Agro-forestry and development of functional carbon markets among other viable strategies.
This can be effectively achieved through sufficient resource allocation, building sufficient research and development capacity, establishment of suitable climate change responsive institutions and streamlining the respective National, regional and global legislative frameworks.
