Youth unemployment against the backdrop of a global pandemic
Youth unemployment has been a major issue even before the pandemic especially in low income countries. The pandemic however has exacerbated this situation with many young people being laid off or put of leave with no guaranteed prospects of return.
With the youth making up more than half of the world population addressing youth unemployment can go a long way in boosting the economy of the country and creating a bright a prosperous future.
The issue of youth unemployment is an issue that needs to be fully addressed. as the youth are our future.
Inadequate education and lack of productivity is costing jobs. Unemployment increases progressively with decreased educational levels; and the education system is not producing the skills for the labour market. Labour supply is affected by the increase in the number of job seekers over the years.
