Crisis of externalities
The crisis at hand is that we are dealing with the aftermath of disasters instead of preventing them. An example given is when money ids given to tsunami survivors after the fact instead of using that money to create feasible solutions to help mitigate the effects of the tsunami next time around create a more feasible outcome rather than a repeated cycle.
Now let us translate this into the SDGs. Many people think that sustainability is separating your garbage into recyclables or not using plastic straws or plastic bags but it is much larger than that. Yes these things help but the biggest difference will be with how companies react to sustainability.
As long as we continue dealing with the crisis of externalities instead of proactively working to stop them through the proper fulfillment of the SDGs then not much difference can be achieved.
