A crisis of hunger, thirst and conflict
Climate change is amplifying risk of violent conflict due to scarcity of food, water and land.
Pastrolists in Kenya have coexisted since their settlement into the country. However conflicts have become more frequent due to scarcity of natural resources as a result of prolonged droughts that the country has been experiencing.
Apart from drought, availability of weapons, cattle rustling and political interference also contribute to interethnic clashes.
Currently, millions of Kenyans especially in the northern part of the country risk death due to starvation.
There is need for the government and non governmental organizations to come up with more strategic ideas for climate change adaptation.
Politicians and local community leaders should strive to maintain peace. Those who try to wreak havoc should be punished.
