E-waste in Ghana
Although Europe has banned the exportation of e-waste however this is not the case as massive tones of e-waste are still being shipped into the countries under the guise of used electronics.
This has led to the area near Ghana's capital city to be heavily polluted with massive levels of lead and arsenic just but to name a few. The high demand for metals from the electronic waste make the young people risk their lives everyday to strip away the waste to get to the metals for little to no pay.
We need better policies abd strategies for importation and exportation especially in Africa to protect not only the health of our people but also the environment as all this dangerous chemicals are sipping into the ground water and the air causing even more havoc for the new generation such as infertility in women or respiratory diseases in those living near the scrap yard.
