Sustainable Agriculture for the Future.

#farming #environment #sustainability
SDG 1 SDG 2 SDG 8 SDG 12

Sustainable agriculture is farming in ways that meet present needs without compromising the ability for both current and future generations to meet their needs. What it aims to achieve is a healthy environment, economic profitability, and social and economic equity for every person involved in the food system.

Agriculture production contributes to sustaining the livelihoods of many households, particularly in Africa. Adopting sustainable agriculture will have many impacts on the farmers as well as the environment. Reduced use of chemicals resulting in reduced pollution are a few of the major results of the adoption.

Ways that define sustainable agriculture includes;
- Maintenance of the earth's biological systems.
- Ability to meet the need for food.
- Minimal use of off-farm inputs.
- Use of crop rotations to control weeds, diseases and insect pests etc.

For this to be a success, sustainability requires direct action to conserve, protect and enhance natural resources and the practices must enhance the resilience of people, communities and ecosystems, especially to climate change. Only through this will we achieve the true definition of sustainability.
