Protecting our forests equals to protecting Life.
We depend on forests for our survival as humans. They provide ecosystem support, such as food, fuel, fodder, non-wood products and shelter which are essential for human well-being. At the same time, they contribute to soil and water conservation, carbon storage and clean air.
Every time we cut down a forest, we are automatically emitting tons of CO2. We expose land on which forests once stood that have been storing carbon over thousands of years and thus we lose the most important buffer against climate warming.
We are all responsible for protecting nature and the forests as one cannot do it alone. There are many local and global initiatives that we can join hands and plant more trees as we protect the already existing ones. Take part in advocacy and demand for implementation of climate change solutions. The time is NOW!
- Forests cover 30% of the planet’s land surface and they’re fundamental .
- WWF estimates that around 8 million hectares of forest are lost.
