Act and Inspire: Making Young Conservationists.
There was a time when kids were supposed to be ‘seen and not heard’. But no more, today kids are rising to the occasion. They make a difference. Isn’t it about time we listened?
Researchers have discovered that one of the best ways of arousing children’s interest in an issue or problem is to involve them in finding the solution.
There are dozens of them today, like these Uganda kids who are inspiring a change in environmental conservation underlying how devastating plastic is to the environment.
A 2018 report by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment indicate that more than 1.5 million children under the age of five lose their lives each year as a result of avoidable environmental impacts.
This notion suggests that the loss of wildlife species and the degradation of valuable ecosystems could be reversed if we re-establish the direct connections between people and nature that have been lost in the modern, which is involving the younger generation in the solution making.
Our efforts to save the nature heritage will depend on our success in reconnecting young people and nature, to make environment conservation the concern of everyone.
