The Rise and Rise of the Lakes.
Lakes Baringo and Bogoria in Rift Valley Kenya water levels are rising causing immerse impacts to wildlife, lives and livelihoods.
Recently, lakes in Kenya's Rift Valley have been observed to be rising by breaching their shores as result of deforestation, climate change and variability as well as tectonic plates shifts. Lakes Baringo, a fresh water lake has risen from a surface area of 168 to 180 Kilometers square. Lake Bogoria, a saline lake, has also risen to 45 from 34 Kilometers square. The flooding effect of these two lakes has displaced thousands of people as well as the loss of livelihoods and infrastructure.
There are fears that ecosystems will be destroyed due to the mixture of saline and fresh water.
