Impact of COVID 19 on mental health
The year 2020 has presented a major challenge with regard to mental health.
With the global spread of COVID 19, mitigation measures such as travel restrictions, quarantine and isolation, curfews and lockdowns have resulted in loss of jobs and social isolation hence negatively impacting on mental health.
Stress and anxiety have been by far the largest impact. This has led to depression, substance abuse and even domestic abuse and sucide in some cases.
There is need to allocate adequate funding to help mitigate impact of COVID 19 on mental health both during and after campaigning.
There is need to regulate information especially information transmitted through social media to ensure its correct and not misleading and causing panic.
Scaling up mobile health to increase acess to mental health and pyschological support during COVID 19.
