Is high GDP related to low vulnerability? “The importance of changing our classification during this crisis is fundamental and crucial.”
The pandemic has severely affected MICs and small island states that are dependent on tourism. Regardless of the income levels of some of these countries, travel controls have had an impact on GDPs.
Vera Songwe suggests we reconsider the current GDP-based country classification as the pandemic has demonstrated that high GDP does not mean less vulnerability.
